DAY 10, Tomi

Day10. A song that i wish I could play.
I really like Yiruma's songs. And if I was to play a song I think it would be one of his piano works.
Yiruma - River flows in You
theirs just something about people who write lik this which really annoys me

Seriously? Is it that hard to press the shift button in conjunction with another letter to key in that capital letter? Or that full stop, apostrophe,  comma or even question mark? People are so lazy. They are down right lazy. If you're going to write like that, the least you could do is get your spelling right. There is a difference between their, they're and there; where and wear; your and you're; write and right - just to name a few. Okay, so i used to write lyk this too not to long ago when I was 10 maybe. But people, it's time to grow up. It's fine if you're just writing in that "style" in messages/chat, facebook and what not, but if you're planning to write an entire blog post or essay like that, don't expect too many people to be willing to get past even the first two lines.

Day 10, Liz

Day 10. A song I wish I could play

I was originally going to post a song I wish I could play on my ukelele, which I haven't really devoted much time into learning to play. But no, I realized that it's always been a dream of mine since around grade 7 to be able to play Chopin's "Fantasie" Impromptu in C-sharp minor, Op. 66 No. 4. It is a classical piece which stands out to me. It's one of the few where I believe I can actually feel something from the notes played out, given that it's played right. But since it's my favourite classical piece, I'm quite picky about how it should be played, and more often than not it's not played to my liking. One day I'll perfect it and record it for the world to hear. But for now, the pianist below has done a superb performance of the piece.

DAY 9, Tomi

Day 9. A song that makes me laugh.
I don't know if I can post this "song" parody thing up but I can't think of anything so I'll post it anyways.

Day 9, Liz

Day 09. A song that makes me laugh

The Lonely Island featuring Akon's 'I Just Had Sex'

Day 8. Tomi

Day 8. A song from my childhood
To be honest, my love for music started at like 14, 15? So before that there is only a couple of songs that I remember or remember hearing I guess. It's a battle between 김건모's 7th album or G.O.D's 3rd album... Both VERY awesome albums which I still listen to. Ha... this is a hard choice... so I'll just post a song for each album.
김건모 - 짱가
This song is probably what I heard the most from all the good songs in the album, only due to my father's love for this song, but still a good song.
 G.O.D. - 거짓말
This song was a national hit, so of course I heard this song a couple hundred times and got to like it. Later on, I found the album for the song and found it pretty damn good.

울라라 세션에 취해

I've watched Superstar K3 since episode one, and there are just so many unbelievably talented competitors, it's a shame that there can only be one winner of the show. My favourite artist, which is actually a group, is called 울라라 세션 (Ooh la la session). They are amazing. They can sing songs of every genre, express themselves perfectly, harmonize like angels would and really touch the audience. They can even dance! Now put your volume up and listen :)

울라라세션 -  서쪽 하늘 & Open Arms

This one member called 박광석 sang 임재범's '너를 위해' and I would say that it is an extremely impressive cover for someone who used to just perform in bars, on the streets, parks, etc.

A band worth noting would also be Busker Busker. They haven't been my favourite on the show, but they've got this addictive style of performing.
Busker Busker - 막걸리나

Make someone happy. Right now.

Despite not getting any study done today was a great day. I learned a few new unexpected things, and I was able to make a friend happy by leaving them a message. It's funny, because usually once you get to know someone a little, your first impression of them changes. But for this friend, my first impression of them was pretty accurate, minus a few small details. So I told them exactly what kind of person I thought they were :) I guess a small message can go a long way. People should do it more often.

After a great hiatus I am finally returning to my Tumblr, and now plan to post relatively frequently. Going back to Tumblr has introduced me to the many tumblrs of friends' which I didn't even know existed previously.

Overall I've had an interesting night, and would really like to sleep but can't due to my guilt of not having studied today.

Day 8, Liz

Day 08.A song from my childhood

Ahh there are so, so many songs which bring me back to my childhood. Back to the days where I used to watch Arthur, Pokemon and Kim Possible. For a while, I was so obsessed with the Goosebump book series that every week, I would borrow 20 books at a time (the library maximum) from the series, and read them all within the period of one or two nights. When I finally finished every book I could get my hands on from the series, I was so disappointed, but I eventually began to learn about new genres, such as fantasy, and found that I enjoyed those books too. For today, I'm going to post two songs - one English, one Korean. These were both songs that I've loved since childhood, but didn't actually know the artist or name of the songs until I was much older.

윤미래's 'Memories'

Puff Daddy and Faith Evan, featuring 112's 'I'll Be Missing You'

Day 7. Tomi

Day. A song from my favorite band.

No doubt my favourite band would have to be YB Band. No further explanation necessary.

Day 7, Liz

Day 07. A song from my favourite band

No doubt my favourite band would have to be 부활. No further explanation necessary.

부활's '생각이나'

Day 6, Tomi

Day 6. A song that makes me fall asleep.
Ha... The sleepy me can probably sleep to anything, especially Lucid Fall. But I especially like this song because, well I like to walk in life. I don't like hurrying things and I don't like rushing things. So let's all walk till we fall asleep.

Day 6, Liz

Day 06. A song that makes me fall asleep

There were quite a few contenders for today's song choice, including The Arcade Fire's 'My Body is a Cage' and Chris Cornell's 'Preaching the end of the World', both of which I used to listen to often before/while falling asleep, which in a way conditioned me to feel somewhat drowsy while listening to those songs. But if there's one song which trumped them both, it would be the song below. Even the title is fitting.

Creed's 'Lullaby'

Day 5, Tomi

Day 5. A song that reminds me of somewhere.
I've been to so many places in my lifetime. And there seems to be a song for each place. They are all old songs but good none the less. So I thought I'll post a song which reminds me of home when I'm out to all the places.

John Denver - Take me home country road

Day 5, Liz

Day 05. A song that reminds me of somewhere

I had to think long and hard about this one. There are a few songs I associate with people, and some with emotions, but rarely places. The only real song I could think of which reminded me of somewhere was a christmas carol that I played a lot while I was a member of the Gold Coast Youth Symphony. We played it various locations, including the ABC music station, Japan and smaller concerts at the Gold Coast Arts Centre. But I didn't really want to post it as a part of this challenge, so instead I chose the song below. It reminds me of my neighbourhood - more specifically the route I consistently walk along when I need a refresher. It's the song that I listen to most while walking along this route, and that's probably how the association formed. Usually it's just in the background while I talk or think to myself.

Keane's 'Somewhere Only We Know'

Day 4. Tomi

Day 4. A song that reminds me of someone.

Well, to be honest I lack the feeling of 'wanting to see' someone or 'missing' someone. So when I got to this point I couldn't really find a someone in which I could base a song on. I could do songs titled 'grandma' by broccoli you too or 'mum' by Ra.D but those are too obvious =,=. So I decided to post a song which makes me miss someone, an unknown someone. I just get the feeling of wanting to meet someone should I say?

The Black Skirts - International Love Song

Day 3, TOMI

Day 03. A song that makes me sad
Yes, this was a hard thing to pick, mainly cuz I listen to a lot of sad songs =,=;; Unlike how Liz posted a song that made her cry, I picked a song that I listen to when i feel like crying. Reason being, I'm a man and I don't like to cry. Anyways, yea, this is one of my all time favourite song from one of my all time favourite band. This song makes me sad, and not sad at the same time. Weird song.
브로콜리 너마저 - 울지마

Day 4, Liz

Day 04. A song that reminds me of someone

This 10 day song challenge is getting harder by the day, and it's only day 4. It took me a while to choose a song which reminded me of someone, because I wanted to share a song which wasn't too personal. The song I chose reminds me of my friend Peter, who is an honest and loyal friend to those who are close to him, and has a true brotherly figure. I'm always reminded of him when listening to this song and 베르사이유의 장미 because it was through karaoke sessions with him that I was introduced to the artist Nemesis. He would sing these two songs consistently in every karaoke sesh for a while, and the songs grew on me. I chose to pick the song which I would consider to be less known, or at least less popular than Rose of Versailles.

Nemesis' 'Eclipse'

Promises

I wonder if people really think through what they're offering and expecting when they make promises, whether it's between you and your conscience, or you and a friend. There are those "promises" that you make as a passing comment, such as "I promise I won't be late!" when really, there might be a greater chance that you will be. And then there are those promises that we hope will last til they or we've reached our expiry date, for example the promise of a marriage, or even the promise to keep a secret .. well, a secret.

Actually, I consider keeping secrets to be one of the most sacred kinds of promises one can make. If I told a friend my secret, and told them not to tell anyone, I would expect them to take it to their grave unless I revealed it to everyone else first. I wouldn't expect them to tell their sibling about it, nor their pet, definitely not other close friends and not their parents either. It's funny - I'm quite open about myself, and honestly if you put together everyone's knowledge of me, you'd have my whole life story. Just as how I would expect other people to respect my privacy and trust in them, I would do my all to keep their secrets to myself.

har har. I'm being such a hypocrite. Let me make a correction - I am a horrible person who only truly values the secrets of people I am close to. Back in middle school, I used to go to Rossie every day and tell her "Hey, this is meant to be a secret, but ..." and let her in on everything I knew, because I thought we were so close that my knowledge was her knowledge and her knowledge was my knowledge. But at least when she told me something personal, I wasn't the one who ever revealed or confirmed anything to do with it. Oh how we've drifted though. It's just me.

I. have. issues. I want to be more of an extrovert. I don't like that I'm always analyzing my relationships with every. single. person. in existence.

P.S. to Tommy's Day 2 music post - yes, I am actually doing the 10 day song challenge. One song a day. And perhaps one non-music related post per day too. Keep up.

Day 2, TOMI

You already posted day 3 liz =,=;;;;
Anyways,
DAY 2. A song that makes me happy.
SG Wannabe - 이토록아름다운 Such a beautiful
hmmm... sg wannabe's song. Don't know why but this is the song which keeps coming to mind when I try to pick a happy song, and I can't think of another song which could replace it. It's just so peaceful that I like it I guess. i like peace ^^

Day 3, Liz

Day 03. A song that makes me sad

Songs don't make me sad; it's what I associate with them that does. And for a while now, I haven't really associated any song with strong emotional feelings, especially not of sadness. So I'll post a song (the only song) that I've ever cried to. It's one that I don't listen to much anymore, hence I never really desensitized myself to the associations I made with the song. Even though it doesn't mean anything anymore, I still get a pang. I guess it's because I've listened to it maybe once or twice since the day I really broke down from listening to it.

Bon Jovi's 'Always'

People are like books

You walk into a library
a bookstore
or even a plain bookshelf.
You scan the book spines in search of a title which catches your interest
I guess this is how the saying "don't judge a book by its cover" came by.
Literally.

But it's funny, just how often this occurs in everyday life.
At uni, work, on the bus, sports clubs, nightclubs.
But you don't want to take the majority of the books out of their comfortable nest.
Most of the time, I just don't want to be surprised by the contents
because sometimes it brings me out of my comfort zone.

Everyone has different tastes in books.
Some enjoy picture books - expressed simply, but complicated to understand.
How about those thick novels with minuscule writing?
And oh. What about those thin books written in Comic Sans writing in huge fonts?
Of course, even this
is all based on how a book is presented.

But even after reading the blurb, and scanning through discussions and reviews online
sometimes you just don't want to bother.
It doesn't seem worth your time.
Other times, you'll pick up a book
maybe flick through a few pages
try to force your way to the end
but it just. doesn't. work.
Of course, you'll never know whether it was worth it or not
because you never read to the last period and space of the book
leaving you full of regrets, or perhaps much needed relief
for being able to put it down;
for being able to escape.

One day, I want someone to pick up my book;
someone who won't scribble all over it, making it unpresentable to anyone else;
someone who wants to read every last letter of it;
someone who understands every comma, every semicolon and every exclamation;
someone who is willing to search for my book - in every library, in every bookstore and on every shelf;
someone who will never forget about my book, even if they suddenly do find another seemingly interesting one;
someone who can smile at the content, regardless of whether they're at the depressing chapter, or the sunshine-filled page.
Because as a whole, it was worth it.

And one day, I hope to pick up theirs.
I'll weigh it in my hands, and ask myself
"Is this really the right book?"
because the indecisive me really isn't good at making decisions.
But once I have finally decided that it is right
I will take out my invisible, fragile key,
click it into place,
and open my book.
It's secretly half filled with empty space
most books probably are
but like I said, you can't judge a book by its cover.
I'll take their book,
not expecting a fairytale
not even hoping for a fairytale
and place their book inside mine.
Hopefully,
just hopefully
their book will fit perfectly.

Day 2, Liz

Day 02. A song that makes me happy

There's one song that makes me really happy for no reason. It's weird, it's not like I've ever associated it with anything in my life, but it still makes me happy. Actually, I think it's because the contents of the dream within the lyrics are so idealistic. In the dream, everything is perfect. Everywhere is peaceful and everyone is happy. So here it is.

David Choi's 'A Dream'

Day 1, TOMi ^^;;

So, I decided to join in in the challenge ^^
My songs will be all korean and most, or all, indie. Reason being that right now i only have indie and hip-hop music on my NEW mp3.

DAY 1. My Favourite Song (Tomi)
Guckkasten - Bitriol

what a song.... what a song indeed. This so got me into indie and has been my favourite since its been released (2yrs). It has a real big addictivity to it, just listen to it 3 times or so.

and this is just a bonus for those kpop fans ^^

Day 1, Liz

 Day 01. My Favourite Song

Unfortunately I don't have a favourite song. I'm always falling in and out of love with songs, going through different phases with genres and such, and so I've never really had just one, single favourite song. But what I've been listening to most lately is this:

Maroon 5's 'Nothing Lasts Forever'

And you know, it's true. Nothing lasts forever - not love, not friendships, not money, not home.

10 day song challenge

day 01 - your favourite song
day 02 - a song that makes you happy
day 03 - a song that makes you sad
day 04 - a song that reminds you of someone
day 05 - a song that reminds you of somewhere
day 06 - a song that makes you fall asleep
day 07 - a song from your favourite band
day 08 - a song from your childhood
day 09 - a song that makes you laugh
day 10 - a song that you wish you could play

Thursday, October 20, 2011

I'm feeling particularly vulnerable lately. Maybe it's because I haven't had a lightbulb for a week in my room, and have resorted to using the lamp every night, making me strain my eyes from the too-shiny light. Or maybe it's because exams are right around the corner, and they're coming on faster than I thought they would. Or it could just be that my dad's been getting annoyed at me for not completing his website. Well I'm sorry Dad, it just so happens that I want to work, while attending uni, while having a life. hah well I can see how well that's going (it's going pretty shit actually).

And you know what? Today, I caught the flu. Again. It's like, the 10 billionth time that it's happened this year, and I absoutely HATE getting sick. Who would like it, right? But it's okay if it only happens maybe once or twice a year. But when you get headaches every second week, and you have to put up with customers who are sickened by your runny nose for a quarter of the year, it really begins to take its toll on you. God damnit. Why couldn't I have some amazing immune system which could keep me sick-free for just ONE entire year? Oh yeah and what's with all these random nose bleeds I've been getting lately? Every time it happens, I'm hit with these pounding headaches which don't go away til the next day. The first time it happened, I seriously freaked out. I have never seen anyone lose as much blood from nosebleeds as myself. I wouldn't mind it if the blood was coming out because I wanted to donate it, but it just seems to happen at the most inconvenient times - when I'm out with friends, during lectures, while I'm eating. Gosh it can't really get much worse can it?

Oh no. There I go, jinxing myself. It is going to get much, much worse. Nothing ever really gets better .. unless, you know, you're Cinderella and one day you meet some amazing Prince who loves you so much that it's like he's been put on a spell. Rich, parents don't care that you're as poor as a hobo, and actually looks as decent as his personality is.

Okay, that reminded me of something. Something good did actually happen. But it's too embarrassing to admit to. Well, maybe not to others, but it is to myself. Because it goes against what I've believed of myself for the past (almost) 18 years. Not that it's anything huge, but it was still weird, realizing how one person, or one thing, can make all the difference in what you THINK is real, and what actually IS real. And you tell yourself that it's just one exception, only it's not. If you find one exception to any rule, I'm sure you're bound to find more and more.

Well, there was my rant for today. Rants are supposed to make you feel better. But I don't feel better. I suppose it's because I'm just saying it to myself, and saying it to myself makes me feel lonely, which adds on to my negative feelings. I should really shut up now.

Drinks

D R I N K S

It's fun, everyone does it, and most know the consequences they will face from consuming it. But what actually happens in the minds of those while they're swallowing it down, one shot after the other? It's a (almost) universal fact which is taken for granted that everyone should become more honest after drinking. In fact, if you don't, you probably just haven't had enough to drink. I've always considered this to be one of the positive effects of drinking, but I recently witnessed just how wrong I was. Sometimes it's better to be the outsider - watching from the sidelines, but not actually being a part of the action. This way, you can laugh and pay out the one that was drunk enough to say or do something stupid the morning after. I don't think I've had an experience that I could share about myself when I was brutally honest about something while I was drunk without meaning to be. But when I do, I hope it doesn't consist of me just hanging off the guy I like for the entire night. When they don't even know it. I mean, I *sort of* have done that, but just not on a guy I like (lol I don't know if that makes it better or worse ==")

Back to the topic. Drinks. I love drinking ♡ Maybe not as much as rollercoaster rides, hugs and money, but I would still choose drinks over Pooh Bear. I don't know how much that means to anyone else, but to me it says a lot. And I'm not just referring to alcoholic drinks - I like fruity drinks, teas, soy milk, you name it. I could confidently say that my favourite food is fruit, but I don't think I could name one specific drink that I preferred over the rest. Or maybe it would just be alcohol > non-alcoholic drinks. And dnm's are always more interesting after everyone's a bit tipsy. But with a huge group, it doesn't really happen often.

The morning after. Ohhhhhh shit. That sick feeling you get in your stomach, that lingering smell in the air, that stench in your own mouth which is there regardless of whether you brushed your teeth or not. The mess that's left at every cranny and nook in the rooms. Everything you see and smell makes you want to scream and run away. But generally the night before was worth it, thank god.

I picture my ideal 18th birthday, which is actually just around the corner, being on the floor or couch of some apartment in Surfers with only close friends and drinks at the table. At my party, there would be enough drinks to get everyone tipsy, and not just a minority of the group. Then, we would play a few games if people wanted. Have some fun, take photos and enjoy a portion of the night doing whatever we wanted. Later in the night, we would all sit in a circle and talk. Talk deep, gossip, make whatever confessions we wanted to anyone we wanted, and just talk. Talk talk talk. And although I've made a lot of new friends this year, I really would not want the majority of them to be there. There are even many friends who I've known for a long time who I would really not like for there to be at my party. Ideally there are about 10 people that I would like to invite, but I'm worried about how I could tell people "Oh yeah, I'm having a party but you're just not invited to it" when they ask me. I guess I'll figure that out later. Blah.
